Virtual Field Trips

Class & Group Programs

Visit the Aquarium from the comfort of your own school, center, or home. Choose from the variety of program topics below. Each involves views of our animals and a live Q&A session with an Aquarium team member host.

All programs take place on Zoom. A Zoom link will be emailed to you the day before the program. Virtual programs do not include Aquarium admission. Program availability is subject to change as programs are booked. Participating parties are responsible for having internet access. Payment is required upon registration. We recommend booking at least 2 weeks in advance.

Aquatic Storytime

[Recommended for preschool to 1st grade]
Settle in and listen to a story about an amazing Aquarium animal. View the story characters’ exhibit in the background. After, meet the living versions of the animals and ask plenty of questions.

Choose from one (1) of the following:
• Sharks (Shark Gallery)
• Turtle and Tortoise (Tropical Forest Gallery)
• Jellyfish (Coastal Boardwalk Gallery)
• Hermit Crab and Invertebrates (Coastal Boardwalk Gallery)

Habitat Exploration

[Recommended for Kindergarten through 2nd grade]
Visit the Ohio Lakes & Rivers Gallery to study freshwater habitats. Then, explore the Shark Gallery to study a coral reef habitat. Discover the differences in how animals survive in these vastly different ecosystems. After exploring both exhibit spaces, compare and contrast the two and help the Aquarium educator build a magnet board habitat for each.

Aquatic Adaptations

[Recommended for 3rd grade through 5th grade]
Discover how specific adaptations help animals survive and thrive in their habitat. Study the adaptation structures and functions for four aquarium animals on this virtual adventure. Follow along with your provided study guide to find out which mouth, body, tail and color pattern suits each fish.

Shark Conservation

[Recommended for 6th grade through 8th grade]
Around one-third of shark species are threated to critically endangered. Humans hold the power to change that statistic. Join in a guided discussion about conservation, bringing to light ways we can all assist our planet and its creatures, especially sharks.

Duration: 30-35 minutes

Shark Exhibit Encounter

[Recommended for all ages] 
Drop in on the variety of species residing in our 230,000-gallon shark exhibit. Hear how we care for such a wide range of species, learn about the different adaptations among the animals, and find out where all of these fish fit in the food chain. Come prepared with your questions about sharks, eels, stingrays and ocean fish.

Cost: $75
Duration: 20-25 minutes

Stingray & Coastal Exhibits Encounter

[Recommended for all ages]
Get up close and watch our stingrays gracefully swim by, while learning about their interesting adaptations and life history. After, take a virtual walk around our Coastal Boardwalk gallery, seeing the giant Pacific octopus, seahorses, moon jellies and much more.

Duration: 20-25 minutes

Animal Cameos

[Recommended for all ages] 
Meet a few of our ambassador animals through the screen, as you learn about each one’s interesting story. Ask questions that cover topics ranging from handling animals, to animal habitats and careers in animal science.

Animals may include three of the following – Eastern box turtle, cockroaches, blue-tongued skink, painted turtle, or African helmeted turtle. Availability of specific animals is subject to program bookings.

Duration: 30-35 minutes

Full Virtual Tour

Take a live virtual tour of all Aquarium galleries with an Aquarium Educator. Visit the Ohio’s Lakes and Rivers, Asia & Indonesia, Industry & Habitat, Coastal Boardwalk, and Shark Galleries. Ask questions at any time along the way. Tour will take place before we open the Aquarium, so you’ll have the place ‘to yourself’.

Duration: 45-60 minutes
